Surgery Update

My surgery was a success today, Monday, September 10! View the KCAL 9 news spot here. I will be in the hospital for the next five days but will be back to Casa Pacifica next week. I'll still be in a cast, but I'd rather be with my kids, even if all I can do is sleep. I will heal faster when they come visit and love me. Thank you to everyone for their love and support!

Fundraising Update

Wow! In just a few days, many generous people contributed to my surgery fund and, as of Friday, August 31st, more than enough money to pay for my surgery! Thank you so much to everyone who donated! I hope some day I get to meet each of you and give you some Archie love.

Thank you also for all of the fan mail! I feel like such a big shot! I love hearing from all of you! I will continue to have my assistant post your letters on my site, so keep checking back!

If you still want to help, there are a lot of ways to do that. Even though enough funds have been raised to pay for my surgery, there are still other things I need that Casa Pacifica does not have it in their budget to cover. These things include: food, vitamins, supplements (for my coat, eyes, and joints), and grooming. Also, after my leg heals, I am going to become a Certified Water Rescue dog and that training is expensive. If you want to help with any of these costs, that would be awesome!

There are also a lot of things that my kids need, too! Another fun thing to do is get involved with me and my kids!

My Surgery

I can’t believe it! I JUST had surgery on my right CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) 12 weeks ago and now I hurt my other leg! I had no idea what a CCL was, but I found out that it’s kind of like an ACL injury in a human, except dogs don’t have the “A” part of the structure of an ACL.

Dr. Ian Holsworth at Ventura Medical and Surgical Group is my orthopedic surgeon and he said that it happens to many dogs after recovering from a surgery like the first one because my left leg was supporting all of my weight (and I am BIG)! I was so bummed when I heard I would need another surgery, but Dr. Ian said that after this surgery I’ll be all better for the rest of my life! Look out kids! Now I’ll be able to catch you when we run and swim!

The good part is that when I had my last surgery, everyone was even NICER to me than usual! My kids brought me cards and treats. They visited me all the time and rubbed my tummy while they read to me. My kids are already planning another bake sale to help raise money for me! (I hope they save me some homemade dog bones!)

The bad part is that my surgery is really expensive. So, I am waiting to have more surgery – this time on my back left leg. The surgery entails lessening the degree of the angle of my knee joint so that when the ligament is reattached, it won’t snap again because the new angle of my knee won’t cause too much tension on the ligament. I need to have the surgery soon because the inflammation of the injury will lead to arthritis and the possibility of my becoming lame (oh no!). Once the surgery is done, both of my back legs will be as strong as a human’s (I think maybe even stronger!) and I won’t have anymore trouble with them!

So I am asking for your generous help, once again, to fund this unexpected and important surgery for me. The estimated cost of the surgery is $5,800. I know that I have turned out to be expensive – what with two surgeries so far – but I work really hard and the kids love me!
