Hey Archie!

I saw your story on the Today show and surfed my way over to your website.  I just had to bark at you and tell you what a great pup you are.  My name is Sirius Black (like the Harry Potter character), and I am a Newfie living in Florida.  I am a little jealous of your job working with so many kids.  I love kids, too, and try to get as many hugs from them as I can.

My story is a little bit like some of your kids.  I was bought by some not so nice people from a local pet store.  They did lots of drugs and left me in the bathroom.  I didn't have a clean place to live because they let me go to the bathroom on the floor and didn't clean it up.  They also didn't give me a clean water bowl so I had to drink out of the toilet.  Those people thought I was going to be a guard dog for their drug house, and when I got big and was so friendly, they called around to different places to try and get rid of me.  Luckily they called the doggie day care where my pa was working.  Pa and ma agreed to come and look at me to see if I would fit in with their family.  When I saw them, I jumped on ma and gave her a big slobbery kiss; she was mine from the minute I saw her.  They were sad to see I was sick with something and had chewed the fur off of my legs.  Then pa went inside and saw that I was living in filth, and they knew they had to take me from the drug people right away.

I was 8 months old when I was rescued.  I fit in with my brother Otto and my sister Nellie immediately.  I was used to going to the bathroom in the house so my new family had to be patient while I learned how to be a clean dog.  They took me to the doctor and found out I was allergic to lots of things so I got better food.  Then they found a skin cancer lump that I had removed.  I slowly learned that my new family was forever and started wagging my tail after several months.  Now I love everyone and greet them like long-lost friends.

I am attaching two photos, one of me and my brother Otto where you can see how I chewed the fur off my legs, and one where I am ready to go to the park with my Doggles on.  You can also see more pictures of me on my Dogster page.

I'm sending lots of positive thoughts for your recovery.  Hope you are fully recovered and back to your routine soon.

Slobbery hugs and kisses,
Sirius Black and pack

Dear Sirius Black,

I am so sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I have been doing really well since my surgery but I am a slow typer (big paws).

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I am so sorry you had to live in such an unhappy place. That must have been terrible. Not only do those people sound not nice, but also very silly. C'mon, a Newf is not a mean guard dog! Duh.

What a happy ending you have had, though. Now you live with such a great family and have a brother and sister. They must love you so much! By the way, I love your doggles! I could use those when I am crusin'!

I hope you don't mind if I share your story with my kids. Many of them had really tough lives before they came to Casa Pacifica, even some in similar situations to yours. They would really like to know that happy endings do happen - even to Newfs!

Come visit me and my kids anytime - it would be pawesome!

Love and schnarf,

Archie

Hello Archie!

I'm a friend of Nanook & Pooka's - I live in San Diego & have my own blog too!  When you are lounging around & have nothing to do..check out my blog at randithelabnewf.blogspot.com.

I'm half newfoundland & black lab...& weigh 106 pounds right now..I look like a super-sized lab (with fuzzier hair) & my temperment is just like a newf!

My mom didn't get her butt in hear in time to send $$$ for your surgery, but maybe we can put together a package for all the kids you take care of...I'll make sure she does that!

I hope you get well soon!  I just watched the video of your surgery by the news station.... & you look so cute on the table!

Love & Licks,
Randi

Dear Randi,

Thanks for the email and for having you mom help out, too! It's cool to hear from other newfs - you're a super-lab and that's really pawesome! I am feeling better after surgery. It was not too ruff, especially since I just had an operation on my other leg a few months ago. I can't  wait to get my cast off so I can run around and play with my kids.

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Hi Archie,

Just curious if your dad comes from Kilyka kennels?  My name is Ellie and I'm a six month newf puppy who's sire is named RazzMaTazz from Kilyka.  I wondered if we might be related?  I live in Ohio and my people dad just had ACL surgery this summer.  His knee hurt a lot for a few weeks, but he's doing better now.  I really hope YOUR surgery goes well and that your legs feel better soon.  I think you're just GREAT!

Love,

Ellie

Dear Ellie,

Thank you so much for your email! I'll be we are related because that is my sire's name, too! I came from Blueberry Hill kennel in Maryland, though. How cool that I have a cousin! You should send me a picture, so I can see if we look alike!

I am sure you took great care of your people dad after his surgery. Thanks for the well wishes!

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Hey Archie,

Just dropping by to say hello and congratulate you on the wonderful work you do. Hope your surgery goes well. I've had 2 operations myself this year so I know what a drag it is (apart from all the extra treats and fuss, of course!)

I've made a small donation towards your surgery on honour of my pal Oscar the Airedale who passed away recently.

I'll keep my paws crossed for your speedy recovery,

Your pal

Jackson the Wire Fox Terrier

Dear Jackson,

Wow – you had two surgeries too?! It’s a lot, huh? Well, we’re tough guys, obviously. But, the treats and fuss totally help us. I can’t believe you heard about me all the way from the United Kingdom!

Thank you so much for the donation – you’re awesome!

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Hi, Archie!

I just want to let you know that HELP is on the way!  Although I passed over the Rainbow Bridge on July 12, I am watching from above.

I know, bud, what it's all about; I was a therapy dog at UCLA Medical Center in the heart/lung unit until my mom was injured in a car accident.  It was some of the best days of our lives.  We visited with patients who spent a lot of time in the hospital, and I know that it brightened their days as well as their families'.

I know, bud, what it's all about, and that why we're going to get you better! I want you to know that my "parents" have sent out an e-mail to all their friends asking them to donate to your care at Agoura Westlake Animal Hospital in my memory.

Mom and dad always gave me the best that life could offer, in sickness and in health.  Now I watch over them.   Coincidentally, my brother Chester is a patient of Dr. Rosenstein's, too.  You're in good hands.  My mom's brother owns Chester.  It was always great times being able to play with my litter mate!

Anyway, my friend, I wish you well.

Love,

Dogtor Rocky Montana
(12/21/96-07/12/07)

Dear Dogtor,

Thank you so much for the nice email! I have never met another therapy dog before! I know we'll meet someday.

It sounds like you had a great life - helping people in the hospital and playing with your brother. I am sure they all miss you.

Thank you for all of your help and support. I will tell Dr. Steve you said "hi" and I'll give him some love for you. While you're keeping an eye on things from up there, can you keep an eye on my kids, too, while I am in surgery? I'd appreciate it. I can't wait to get better so I can run and play with my kids all the time.

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Hello, Archie --

I saw your story on KCAL9 this afternoon and shared it with some people that may want to help.  I don't know them personally, so I can't commit them but I do hope they will.  I hope to hear from them soon.

Good luck and stay "chill" in this hot weather.

Dear friend,

Thank you so much for your support and telling your friends about me!

I have been staying cool by swimming a lot with my kids. It's one of my favorite things!

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Oh my gosh Archie, I can't believe you have your own website now!  I miss you and all the kids there so much!  Looks like you are continuing to be a good friend to them and having fun too yourself!

I'm so sorry you have to have surgery again, but I'll be hoping it all heals well.  I enjoyed reading about you in the paper and will be looking for you on The Today Show!  Don't be nervous--it's just network TV.....

I'll keep checking your website from time to time for more pictures and "Archie Adventures"!

Love and hugs from your friend in Oregon,

Cheryl Jessup

Dear Cheryl,

It was so good to hear from you! We all miss you, too! I have been having so much fun playing with my kids!

Thanks for the encouragement. I was a bit nervous about being on tv, but now I am an old pro - did you see me yesterday? I was awesome! I think my left side is my "good side." I think I look more loveable from the left. What do you think?

Be sure to keep in touch!

Love and Schnarf,
Archie

Archie,

We would like to recommend a great Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. Jack D. Henry, DVM, MS, that did surgery on three of our dogs who all blew out there ACL on the same left rear leg... Surgery was successful for all three and he and his staff are so kind and loving that you can't help but let other people know about him when they need help.

We will be sending a check to help pay for this surgery cause the work you do is so very important to all these kids... To let you know we just lost our last dog he would have been 16 years old in six weeks he is now in a black urn back home with his brother and mother...

Best Wishes,

Joe & Sandy Bryant
North Hollywood, Ca

Dear Joe and Sandy,

Thank you so much for your email and the vet recommendation. Dr. Jack worked on my elbows last year! He was so nice!

I am sorry to hear about your dog passing. I am sure you miss him and the rest of his family.

Thank you so much for your donation, kind words and support. It means a lot!

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Dear Archie,

My family saw you on TV tonight  they said you are so handsome!!!! they were touched by knowing the nice job you make with the kids and also knowing you need some help. They want to help you, so they will make a donation in the loving memory of my big sister Tate (a beautiful Newfie like us) who died last January at age 13. I am just 5 months old. We were surprised by how similar we were as a pups, we saw all your pictures in the website.

Please be strong, we will keep you in our prayers and we will help you to get better, so you can make more lives happier!!!

I am sending you a picture of me, with a big wet kiss and maybe one day I will visit you and play together, we live in Marina del Rey, so it will be possible.

Give a big hug to all the kids out there!! Our hearts are touched!!

Love,

Maggie (my mom calls me...... Puppy Dog!!!)

Dear Maggie,

You look just like me when I was a pup! Wow! Thanks for the pictures!

I am sorry to hear about your sister. I am sure you miss her. When I am all better, you should come visit me - I hardly ever get to play with other Newfies!

I posted your pictures on my site. To see them, click here and here.

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Archie,

I hope to see you soon. I can't wait to walk you and play with you.

Love,

Jimmy

Dear Jimmy,

I can't wait to see you, too! We will have a great time playing! My favorite game to play is tug-o-war! I also like to go swimming, because it has been so hot lately.

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Archie,

How much do you eat? What is your favorite food?

Your fan,

Dennis

Dear Dennis,

Good questions! Each day, I eat one large bowl of Hill's Prescription Diet kibble. I usually eat at night, after work. Sometimes, I race my sister Talloulah, and my brother, Grande, to see who can eat the fastest. Usually Grande wins because he loves to eat! I think I hear kibble being poured! Gotta go!

Love and Schnarf,

Archie

Archie,

I had the privilege of meeting you a year ago at the Pinewood Derby Race. I don't know if you remember me, but I was the extremely good looking guy (with all the style) filming and taking pictures of the event with the kids.  Anyway, I wanted to tell you how impressed I was with you. I have been your biggest fan since. You are such a cool guy with all the good looks, and all the right moves. People instantly love you and want to be your friend. I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to be more like you?

Sincerely,

Rob

Oh......Wait!  Who does your hair?  I have been trying to get that look, but no one can get it right.

Dear Rob,

Thanks for the email, buddy! I do remember meeting you at the Amigos Pinewood Derby! Thanks for your help that day!

Here are some tips to get people to like you:

Always wag your tail when people approach you, especially when they pet your head. That lets them know you like them.

People love to give hugs. Let them.

Be a good listener. Don't interrupt.

My hairstyle comes from a steady routine of napping, lots of kids hands petting it, chlorine and schnarf.  Good luck!

Love and Schnarf,
Archie
